Equine

Bates has a specialist Equine Law Department, dedicated to dealing with legal problems relating to the equine industry and Agricultural Law of both a contractual and litigious nature.

We understand that the equine industry is unique in its characteristics and language. Agreements are often entered into with little or no contractual basis and as a result, disputes frequently arise.  These disputes require a solicitor with knowledge and expertise, not only of the law, but also of horses and of the equine industry.

Dedicated and experienced legal team for the equine industry.

Rachel Watson leads our Equine Law Department. Rachel has ridden and owned horses for nearly 20 years, and has a wealth of experience of both horses and the equine industry.

We offer our legal services both where a dispute has arisen already (contentious), or where the client wishes to take steps to avoid a dispute by the drafting of a legal document (non-contentious).  For example:  loaning or sharing a horse, setting up a livery yard, or employing staff, grazing agreements.
